Are there different kinds of Gas Logs?
Most people don’t give much thought to what kind of logs are best for their fireplace, but there are many options. The selection process starts with what type of Gas Logs you will need – vented or ventless. Once that has been determined, you can make choices based on color, size, texture, and personal taste. The Flame Company offers many classic and contemporary choices available for you. However, if you’re on the fence about which type of gas logs to get, we can go over your options anytime; stop by our showroom and see for yourself.
Vented Gas Log sets are the most popular Gas Logs; they are used in existing wood-burning fireplaces with fully operational chimneys and can be used as replacements for wood logs. These produce the most traditional flame, large and golden, which resembles a traditional wood fire. However, because these flames are made to work with a chimney, a good amount of heat is lost, making it a less valuable heat source.
Vent free or ventless labels are used for gas log sets that don’t require a chimney or venting to operate. These logs are designed to achieve a clean, smokeless flame and burn at almost perfect efficiency, so a minimal amount of gas remains after combustion. Typical by-products that remain are water vapor and carbon dioxide. These are good options for fireplaces built to be decorative or added after the house was built and therefore don’t have a chimney. Ventless logs produce smaller flames that are typically blueish; they can create a beautiful flame but do not produce large fires of flames.
